Chapter 2: MoonwaHLKers SCREENED and Launched ✓
This week, the interns really hit the ground running… or should I say left the ground flying. With virtual intern meetings everyday, sending hundreds of messages via Slack, working with our mentors, and having some in-person fun in the office, we have been BUSY! All of us agree that the past two weeks have been informative, educational, inspirational, and most importantly, FUN!
This week, we put together our knowledge, research, and guidance from mentors to make our first slide deck for the American Cancer Society. We have been working on a campaign to increase awareness and prioritization for preventative health, specifically breast cancer screenings, in Missouri. On Thursday, we gave our first pitch to our mentors and account team, and overall, I would say mission accomplished. Although it was not perfect, we came prepared with lots of information and strategies to present and discuss. We received lots of feedback and advice, and we cannot wait to implement it and present our final pitch for ACS in Week 3!
Our conversations the past week have been surrounding screens: how to screen, where to screen, and all the different types of screens (health, tablet, movie, window, etc.)
Now MoonwaHLKers… with all this talk of screens, let’s get to know each other a bit more: what on-screen TV or movie character do you represent and why?!
“I would say I am a mix of Lorelai Gilmore from Gilmore Girls and Chandler Bing from Friends. From Lorelai, I definitely take on her talkative, free-spirit personality with her passion and independence. I would call myself a go-getter like Lorelai as well because I work hard to achieve my dreams. On the flip side, I take on Chandler Bing’s personality through his sarcasm and wit (at least I think I do or else that’s awkward).”
-Mallory Kimes
“I think I’m similar to Pam from the Office. Over the course of the show, she comes out of her shell and learns to love herself, gains confidence, and is not afraid to say what she thinks. She is also super goofy, has a great sense of humor, and loves to paint - which are some traits I have in common with her. I’m still on my own journey to self-love and confidence, but I’m hoping to become as strong as her one day.”
-Erin Wunderlich
“I think that the Disney princess and movie ‘Moana’ really represents me well because I am always looking for adventure! Moana stays busy doing new things and exploring around her home island and off the island too, and I love to travel and do fun things in St. Louis while I’m home. My personality is also similar to Moana’s determined and outgoing character, while also staying focused on the task at hand.”
- Ashley Byer
“I am like Russell from Up. I am jolly, positive, and adventurous just like he is. Even though I can never live up to his boy scout greatness, considering I only did cub scouts for two weeks, I think I embody his determined spirit. I also sometimes tend to have his ‘in your face’ social energy and his ‘go with the flow’ attitude.”
- Hunter Bickel
“I would definitely describe myself as the lovechild of Jessica Day (New Girl) and Michael Scott (The Office). I have a tendency to sing most of the things that I say like Jess does and often am plagued with Michael’s high-strung personality. I also have the funny side of Jess with the impending doom side of Michael. I think I need a little bit more of Jess’ careless attitude and Michael’s determination to succeed. This combo can make for someone really funny (which I kind of think.. I am).”
- Margaret Fitzgerald
“I would say a cartoon character I identify with is Garfield in respects to I am definitely not a morning person and hate Mondays. My Grandma makes the best lasagna and I can’t help but feel exactly like him when she makes it. Though I am not quite as grumpy as him, I feel as though everyone has a little Garfield in them every now and then.
-Collin Clark
“My family always said I looked like Boo from Monsters Inc. when I was little. That would always make me angry, but now that I think about it, the comparison is spot on! Boo is one determined gal who’s not afraid to take on scary monsters, and neither am I. Boo also enjoys silly moments and loves a good laugh. One of the few words she knows how to say is “kitty,” which happens to be the name of my boyfriend and I’s cat.
