Chapter 2: Gaining Speed

Our mission ran smoothly this week while preparing for our first checkpoint: the practice pitch. When experiencing turbulence, we called our mentors back at the space station who helped us lift off.

We put our helmets together to solve Greenridge Farm’s ask: encourage consumers to give their products a try. First, we defined our target audience as millennial women. Researching their psychographics led us to discover our insight: balance. From there, the creative team came up with three unique concepts. While gravity pulled us in many directions this week, we look forward to next week—landing on one big idea.

The practice pitch. Our jetpacks kicked into high gear and we killed our presentation! One week. 79 slides. And a lotttttt of research went into our deck. Let’s take a moment to pat ourselves on the back, woohoo! The mentors loved our idea “In a World Full of Filters, We Keep it Natural.”

And while we know more about deli meat than we ever thought we would, we are excited to continue perfecting our mission.

I asked my fellow Saterns:

What is the most helpful thing you learned from your mentor this week?

My mentor Kendall has helped me so much in the past week! Whenever I felt stuck or needed some advice on our project, she was always glad to chat with me and provide me with insights that helped me understand how to proceed. I think the most helpful thing is that as a brand planner, she taught me how to look at the project and see it as a story we are telling, and how to focus on each of the points we are making. Her advice has been amazing and I'm so thankful that she always takes so much effort to mentor me!

— Cindy Chou, Planner

My mentor, Jamie, helped me SO much this week. She was always eager to lend a helping hand and went above and beyond to teach me. I’m sure she is sick of hearing the Slack tone every time I message her. Jamie taught me how creative concept write-ups can explain and lead to my creative ideas. She told me everything can be rewritten to sound more copywritten and to pay attention to details—small changes can make a big impact on tone.

— Grace Newlin, Copywriter

The most helpful thing that I learned from my mentor this week was what specific media outlets PR focuses on and how to use these outlets to the best of our ability to accommodate the client.

— Tayla Whitley, PR Manager

Melissa has helped me understand the important steps to take when looking at our Greenridge Farm campaign. She allowed me to sit in on a meeting with her to see how a real advertising team presents to a client. It was very interesting to see!

— Caroline Mansfield, Account Manager

I got a lot of great advice from my mentor, Jasmyne, this week! One was to think from the viewers perspective and ask yourself, would they understand the general message just from a glance? Taking a step back can help reveal strengths and weaknesses to work off of, and I will definitely be using this advice moving forward!

— Joerdan Carney, Art Director

What are you looking forward to next week?

I'm looking forward to presenting our final pitch as a team as we've all been working so hard on our project!

— Angel Macaalay, Media Strategist

I'm looking forward to working together on this final pitch!
